TRINIDAD, HUMBOLDT COUNTY — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Trinidad’s official short-term rental resource page says the city is currently not issuing new full-time short-term rental permits in residential zoning districts. It refers property owners to a citywide cap and a waitlist for properties in UR and SR zones.

What residents should know

Landlords, homeowners and prospective vacation-rental operators must examine Ordinance 2022-02 and current city materials to determine which uses, existing permits, renewals and occupancy taxes may apply.

The city’s document library includes sample signs, brochures, quarterly occupancy tax returns and renewal materials. A listing on a rental platform does not by itself prove that a property is permitted under municipal rules.

People considering purchasing or converting a home for visitor accommodation should not assume a permit is immediately available. Confirm zoning, cap status and the specific property record with the city before making financial commitments.

These are standing local regulations rather than a claim that Trinidad approved new restrictions during the first week of November 2026.
